What the checked documentation confirms
This briefing is for developers and editors of video pages updating source naming and statistics. The Google Search Central snapshot was checked on 2026-10-27 and carries a last-updated date of 2026-09-24. It places creator and interactionStatistic among recommended VideoObject properties.
An earlier document version was not examined. The page date therefore cannot establish that all listed properties first appeared then. The reason to update a template is the checked documentation's content, rather than an assumed launch of a new search feature.

How to identify the creator unambiguously
The creator property accepts author as an alternative. Its value is a Person or Organization: the person or organization that created or published the video. Choose the type according to the actual role of the named subject being described.
When a named subject is specified, the documentation requires name or alternateName. The creator.url field, or author.url when using author, describes a page uniquely identifying that named subject, such as a profile or homepage. Our practical inference is to check that the link identifies the named creator rather than merely opening the video's watch page.

How to preserve each counter's meaning
interactionStatistic describes applicable video statistics through InteractionCounter. Within it, interactionType identifies the event and userInteractionCount gives an integer count of those events.
- WatchAction — video views.
- LikeAction — likes or upvotes.
- CommentAction — comments.
- ShareAction — reshares.

What to check before updating the template
Our editorial recommendation is to record what event each counter measures and which video it concerns before mapping it to interactionType. If the source metric combines views, reactions and comments, do not put its aggregate total into WatchAction: that mapping changes the data's meaning.
Separately check the creator's name, type and identifying link. After checking meaning, run Google's recommended Rich Results Test, correct critical errors and examine the accessible page through URL Inspection. This is a proposed workflow for the reader; their implementation was not tested here.

Verification method and limits
The preparation method was to verify the supplied snapshot's SHA-256, locate creator and interactionStatistic in the property tables, check their nested field definitions, and read the testing guidance and display limitations. These steps were performed on a single public snapshot. They make the claim-to-document mapping reproducible, but cannot reconstruct its revision history.
Google explicitly warns that features consuming structured data may not appear in results. The completion criterion for this change is therefore an accurate description of the creator and events. Ranking, impression or source link gains would require separate observations; the examined source supplies no such evidence.

What this does not prove
- One documentation snapshot was examined; no before-and-after version comparison was performed.
- This briefing describes Google's property support, not confirmed use of every field in a particular search result.
- No live video site's markup, counters or search results were tested.
