A precise working meaning
The label is useful when it stresses continuity: generative features do not abolish HTTP responses, canonicals, internal links, or understandable main content. It is unhelpful when old work is renamed for a new price without changing the method.

What is genuinely shared with SEO
A search system still needs to discover a URL, fetch its content, understand the main document, and select a canonical version. Useful navigation, original information, and accurate structured data support that process but create no entitlement to a special appearance.

Concrete example
An article has a canonical pointing to the home page. Fixing it helps both ordinary search and AI features because it removes URL ambiguity. Adding an invented schema.org property called “aiOptimized” fixes nothing; no such property exists.
How to measure it
First test technical outcomes: 200, HTML, canonical, indexability, sitemap, and internal links. Then observe impressions, clicks, mentions, and citations separately on a preregistered prompt panel.
Common mistake
Promising that FAQ markup, llms.txt, or a keyword density will secure a citation. Those elements may be used for their actual purposes, but the guarantee would require evidence that public documentation does not provide.
What this does not prove
- AI surfaces, reporting, and availability change; the profile must be checked against current documentation.
